What do I spread on it?
Anything soft and safe: plain unsweetened yoghurt, wet food, a meat topper mixed with water, or pumpkin purée. Avoid anything with xylitol — that rules out most 'reduced sugar' peanut butters, so check the jar.
How is this different from a lick mat?
You hold this one. A mat sits on the floor or sticks to a wall and the dog works at it alone; a stick keeps your hand in the loop, which is what you want during a nail trim.
Will it survive a determined chewer?
It isn't a chew toy. If your dog bites rather than licks, take it away — that applies to every product in this category.
