It's the easiest way to get moisture and something interesting into a bowl of dry kibble — particularly for a dog who drinks too little or has gone off their food. Can I actually feed this as a complete meal?
Technically it carries an AAFCO adult-maintenance statement, which is a claim about nutrient balance. In practice the calorie density makes it impractical: at 54 kcal per cup, a 50 lb dog needing roughly 1,100–1,200 kcal a day would get through about 20 cups. We'd rather tell you that now than have you work it out at the checkout. Use it as a topper — that's what it's genuinely good at.
How much should I add as a topper?
Most owners use one cup over a normal meal, or two for a large dog. Feeding amounts vary with age, activity, body condition and whatever else is in the bowl. Your vet is the right person to set a target for your particular dog.
Why is the protein only 6%?
Because it's 89% water. Wet-food percentages aren't comparable to kibble percentages — on a dry-matter basis, once you take the water out, the protein figure is far higher. It's the same reason a 10% protein wet food isn't a tenth as good as a 24% kibble.
Will it help a dog that won't drink?
It adds fluid to the diet, which many owners find helps with a reluctant drinker. If your dog has suddenly stopped drinking or is drinking far more than usual, that's a vet call rather than a food change — both can signal something that needs looking at.
Does it need refrigerating?
Not before opening — the cup is shelf-stable. Once open, refrigerate and use it up within a few days.
